MoDOT’s mowers — particularly the ground-engaging skids — come up against harsh conditions day to day, with steady abuse from gravel, sand, asphalt, concrete, and dirt. Traditional steel skids wear out quickly, making maintenance and replacement a frequent necessity, multiple times per cutting season. Across each season, that adds up to significant downtime and labor costs.
Good Earth Tools applied solid tungsten carbide wear-proofing technology to the ground-contacting surfaces of MoDOT’s mower skids. The solution was first implemented on Alamo/Triumph Switchblade Sickle Mowers, but after successful deployment, it was expanded to John Deere, Bush Wacker, and Tiger mowers.

Traditional steel skids require replacement multiple times throughout a cutting season.

Good Earth Tools tungsten carbide mower skids perform at their peak for 5+ years and counting.
A picture of performance: One Good Earth Tools tungsten carbide mower skid has been in continuous MoDOT service since its installation in May 2019, replacing the need for approximately 15 OEM steel skids. That durability, reliability, and performance has reduced maintenance downtime and driven substantial cost savings.
